Job Summary
Conduct medication transcription, administration, and controlled substance sheet signing under direct, physical supervision of a registered nurse. Perform patient assessments, routine procedures including gastric tube placement and catheterizations, and document all activities with "NG" initials. Submit applications and complete skill validation before practicing; cease practice immediately upon failing two NCLEX attempts or missing the 120-day window. Adhere to strict restrictions prohibiting independent medication administration, charge responsibilities, or initial shift assessments.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program
- Eligible to sit for NCLEX
- Pass NCLEX exam within 120 days of application to the board of nursing
- Ability to cosign medication transcription, medication administration, and nursing documentation under direct supervision
- Ability to continually observe, assist, coordinate, evaluate, and monitor under direct supervision
- Ability to use initials NG after name as credentials
- Ability to transcribe medication orders per written policies and procedures
- Ability to administer medications and controlled substances
- Ability to sign controlled substances sheets
- Ability to document in the medical record with the abbreviation NG
- Ability to perform patient assessments after the initial assessment or after the first assessment of the shift performed by the registered nurse
- Ability to perform and document routine procedures including placing nasal gastric tubes, performing urinary catheterizations, applying sterile dressings, performing blood sugar checks and obtaining specimens
- Ability to work without the physical presence of and direct supervision by a registered nurse
