Job Summary
Assist with patient assessments, interview patients regarding health problems and medication history, and document medical histories including treatments and conditions. Take vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, respiration, and weight, while providing basic wound care, laboratory tests, and patient education. Support Activities of Daily Living including bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility, and observe changes in patients' physical or mental health to report to nurses. Coordinate patient appointments, maintain inventory of medical supplies, and manage communications via phone and email. Work under the supervision of registered nurses and correctional officers in a secure environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Ability to obtain BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
- Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
- Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods
- Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
