Job Summary
Academic Advisor for MSN and ABSN programs results in guiding nursing students through degree planning, graduation requirements, course selection, transfer credit substitutions, and program preparation. Responsibilities include maintaining student academic files, developing educational plans, facilitating progress, coordinating new student orientation, and connecting students with external services (healthcare, social services, grants). The role involves involvement with the Student Success Network, supporting faculty on students of concern, and occasional travel with some evenings/weekends. Strong emphasis on advising theory, pedagogy, inclusivity, and collaborative work with Academic Affairs, Student Success and Retention, and Student Life to enhance student outcomes within the CNHS. Travel and schedule flexibility are noted as part of duties. The position reports to the Assistant Dean of Nursing and is a 12-month, full-time role with Rockhurst University, located in Kansas City, MO.
Required Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience in higher education or student success efforts
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field (preferred)
- Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, social work, psychology, counseling, or a closely related field (preferred)
- Knowledge of technology, especially accessibility tools and online student success software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff
- Willingness to travel, with potential evenings and weekends required
