Job Summary
Maintains and cares for nursery facilities housing a diverse set of specimens (orchids, cacti, trees, shrubs) for research, conservation, and garden use. Performs seeding, repotting, propagating, weeding, organizing, watering, and cleaning; recognizes and reports abnormalities (wilting, leaf scorch, nutrient deficiencies, pests); maintains records of new plants, repotting, relocation, and labeling; follows industry best management practices; adaptable to overtime and weekend needs; able to lift up to 50 lbs;-capable of operating trucks safely; works outdoors in variable weather; collaborates with volunteers and team members.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate pickup trucks and essential equipment safely
- Strong knowledge of plant material and correct horticultural practices
- Understanding of Integrated Pest Management techniques
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather, including heat, wind, and rain
- Ability to work as part of a team or independently with minimal supervision
- Good interpersonal communication and the ability to work with a diverse workforce
- Pre-employment background check required
