Job Summary
Perform bedside nursing tasks including bathing, ambulating, turning patients, and assisting with bedpans or urinary devices. Take vital signs, record intake and output, and apply or change sterile and non-sterile dressings. Assist with procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, and enemas while documenting accurate patient information on flow sheets. Keep staff advised of current patient status and participate in nursing conferences. Provide transcripts to confirm continued eligibility and assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes. Work rotating shifts on a 32-bed neuro-medical unit with 12 telemetry beds under RN supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled and attending an accredited school of registered nursing
- May be enrolled in an (accredited) Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (BSN) or Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) Program
- Requires evidence of successful completion of adult medical-surgical rotations – theory and clinical
- Requires current BLS certification
- Requires the interpersonal and communication skills to effectively deal with patients and their families to calm fears and to exchange detailed patient information with hospital professional staff
- Requires the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Requires the ability to gather and assess patient information from a variety of sources in a timely manner and relay accurate information to professional staff
- Requires basic keyboard familiarity
- Requires the ability to effectively utilize hospital information and electronic medical record software/system as required
- Requires enrollment in an accredited nursing program
- Requires compliance with the MMR, Varicella, Tdap, and Influenza vaccine requirement
Desired Qualifications
- Note: ADN graduates will be required to sign a BSN completion agreement upon hire/placement in a graduate nurse position
- RN from another state awaiting Michigan Licensure
- Graduate Nurse from accredited school of nursing awaiting retake of NCLEX or awaiting results of the last exam
