Job Summary
Perform routine bedside nursing activities including bathing, grooming, ambulating, and turning patients. Assist with additional procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, dressing changes, and vital sign monitoring. Document intake and output, assess patient status, and update nursing staff on condition changes. Participate in pre-operative and post-operative care while ensuring optimum utilization of supplies and equipment. Provide accurate patient information to professional staff through flow sheets and activity records. This role supports the neuro, medical, and surgical patient population on a 27-bed Medical Progressive Care Unit with a 3:1 or 4:1 nurse-to-patient ratio. Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program and hold current BLS certification.
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled and attending an accredited school of registered nursing
- May be enrolled in an (accredited) Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (BSN) or Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) Program
- Requires evidence of successful completion of adult medical-surgical rotations – theory and clinical
- Requires current BLS certification
- Requires the interpersonal and communication skills to effectively deal with patients and their families to calm fears and to exchange detailed patient information with hospital professional staff
- Requires the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Requires the ability to gather and assess patient information from a variety of sources in a timely manner and relay accurate information to professional staff
- Requires basic keyboard familiarity
- Requires the ability to effectively utilize hospital information and electronic medical record software/system as required
- Requires enrollment in an accredited nursing program
- RN from another state awaiting Michigan Licensure
- Graduate Nurse from accredited school of nursing awaiting retake of NCLEX or awaiting results of the last exam
- Transcripts must be provided at the time of hire
- Transcripts may be requested for review periodically
- Requires evidence of successful completion of adult medical-surgical rotations
- Requires current BLS certification
- Requires the interpersonal and communication skills to effectively deal with patients and their families
- Requires the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Requires the ability to gather and assess patient information from a variety of sources
