Job Summary

Provide acute health care to infants, children, and adolescents through health surveillance, assessment, and intervention for acute or chronic conditions. Collaborate with supervising physicians to formulate treatment plans, prescribe medications, order laboratory tests, and deliver patient education. Manage medical records, refer patients for additional services, and utilize facility-approved guidelines to diagnose and treat physical, psychosocial, and behavioral disorders. Maintain BLS and PALS certification while reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer. Requires two years of pediatric acute care experience, a Texas APRN license, DEA registration, and an accredited advanced practice degree.

Required Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of pediatric acute care setting; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Licensed in the state of Texas.
  • Active Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) License number or ability to apply for such license prior or upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Graduation from an advanced nursing practice program accredited by the Texas Board of Nursing or other National accrediting body recognized by Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Competent in the application of population-specific needs.
  • Uses facility approved practice guidelines to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of psychiatric problems.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of the principles of the development, implementation, and documentation of individualized care and of treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of physical and mental health needs.
  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, ethnicity, and cultures.
  • Ability to teach patients about specific psychiatric problems and about self-care activities to promote wellness.
  • Ability to evaluate age-specific and developmental-specific needs of patients, prescribe and implement an effective course of treatment in collaboration with other clinical personnel.
  • Possesses critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Possesses effective interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Ability to utilize computers for documentation purposes.
  • Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
