Nurse Practitioner/Physician's Assistant - Cardothoracic

Job Summary
Conduct comprehensive history and physical examinations, evaluate and diagnose cardiothoracic surgery patients, and develop treatment plans across inpatient, ICU, outpatient, and emergency settings. Perform preoperative evaluations, manage postoperative patients including ventilator and wound care, and function as the primary first assist during surgical procedures. Round daily on hospitalized patients, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and coordinate care with consulting physicians and ancillary services. Provide clinical coverage at three affiliated hospitals with shared every-other weekend call coverage and occasional evening or holiday shifts. Maintain accurate medical documentation, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and collaborate with nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program
- Current Texas PA or APRN license
- NCCPA certification (PA) or national board certification (ACNP)
- Current DEA registration (or eligibility)
- Current BLS and ACLS certification
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods during surgical procedures
- Ability to lift, push, and pull equipment and assist with patient positioning as necessary
- Ability to respond to emergent situations in various hospital settings
- Full-time position availability
- Monday through Friday availability
- Operating room, clinic, and inpatient responsibilities availability
- Rotating call schedule availability
- Every other weekend call coverage availability
- Coverage responsibilities at three affiliated hospitals availability
- Occasional evening, holiday, and after-hours coverage availability
Desired Qualifications
- Prior cardiothoracic surgery experience
- Experience as a first assist in cardiac and thoracic surgery
- First Assist certification
- New graduates with significant cardiothoracic surgery clinical rotations
