Job Summary
Conduct comprehensive direct patient care including obtaining histories, performing physical examinations, ordering diagnostic tests, diagnosing illnesses, and prescribing treatments. Provide health maintenance through patient and family education and counseling. Manage indirect care responsibilities such as staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement. Requires a Master's degree, national certification, and 3+ years of ER or Critical Care experience. Includes weekend third-shift rotation with mandatory ACLS, TNCC, and BLS certifications.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Masters of Science program from an accredited college or university
- Successful completion of a National Certification Exam for NP/PA
- Current registration through the Alabama board of Nursing and/or Board of Medical Examiners
- Approval of the Huntsville Hospital credentialing board
- Minimum 3 years full time ER or Critical Care RN and/or NP/PA experience
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly
- Knowledge of all equipment and materials required for procedures described in the Emergency Care Center Policy/Procedure Manual and Nursing Service Procedure Manual
- BLS for Healthcare Providers certification obtained in orientation period
- ACLS certification obtained within the first 6 months of employment and maintained current
- TNCC certification obtained within the first 2 years of employment and maintained current

- Department specific competencies completed within the provisional period and maintained current
