Job Summary

Conduct physical examinations, develop treatment plans, and monitor patients with acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes. Administer medications, respond to medical emergencies, and provide first aid while ensuring timely transport to healthcare facilities. Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention. Maintain accurate medical records, document treatment plans, and coordinate services within a controlled correctional environment. Adhere to facility security protocols and collaborate with correctional officers to ensure patient safety. Perform duties including admitting and discharging patients and evaluating those returning from off-site treatment.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate)
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Must hold a current unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner in WY
  • Current DEA registration
  • An appropriate collaborative agreement with the on-site Physician
  • Must possess an active BLS/CPR Certification
  • Be certified in a Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work independently and in a team
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
  • Must have the ability to stand for long periods
  • Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
  • Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus
  • AHA preferred
