Job Summary
Conduct physical examinations, develop treatment plans, and monitor patients with acute and chronic conditions including asthma, hypertension, and diabetes. Administer medications, respond to medical emergencies, and provide first aid while ensuring timely transport to healthcare facilities. Educate patients on preventative care and substance abuse prevention, and maintain accurate medical records and vital sign documentation. Adhere to correctional facility security protocols, triage patient needs, and coordinate services alongside correctional officers and physicians. Admit and discharge patients from the facility, evaluate those returning from off-site treatment, and document all care plans.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate)
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner
- Must hold a current unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner in Georgia
- Current DEA registration
- An appropriate collaborative agreement with the on-site Physician
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification
- Be certified in a Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Able to work independently and in a team
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus
