Job Summary

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the Emergency Department providing evaluation, examination, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of patient acuities in collaboration with an onsite physician. Responsibilities include ordering and interpreting laboratory and imaging studies, prescribing medications, and performing procedures such as suturing, arthrocentesis, joint reductions, and incision and drainage of abscesses, with potential to learn more advanced tasks such as endotracheal intubation and central line placement. The role involves 80-100% FTE with shifts spanning days, evenings, nights, weekends, and call, working within a large ED team at University Hospital and East Madison Hospital.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Wisconsin NP or PA licensure
  • Active PA license with prescriptive authority or Active RN and APRN licenses with prescriptive authority (Nurse Practitioner)
  • DEA license or ability to obtain prior to or upon hire
  • Board certification: NP in Emergency or Family (NP path) OR PA board certification (PA path)
  • Master's or Doctorate in nursing for NP path OR Bachelor's or Master's in PA program for PA path
  • Ability to order and interpret labs and imaging; prescribe medications
  • Active board certification as NP or PA as applicable
  • Educational prerequisites as described: NP requires Master’s or Doctorate; PA requires Bachelor’s or Master’s
