Job Summary
Conduct comprehensive direct patient care for critically ill children aged 0-18, including obtaining histories, performing physical examinations, ordering diagnostic tests, diagnosing illnesses, and prescribing pharmacological treatments. Provide health maintenance interventions through patient and family education and counseling while managing high-acuity conditions requiring constant monitoring. Assume accountability for indirect care responsibilities such as staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement. Maintain current BLS, ACLS, and department-specific competencies within the probationary period. This role supports a progressive educational program for both new and seasoned Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners at Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children's 11-bed PICU.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Masters of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university
- Successful completion of a National Certification Exam for NP
- Current registration through the Alabama board of Nursing
- Current registration through the Board of Medical Examiners
- Approval of the Huntsville Hospital credentialing board
- Must have excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment
- Ability to prioritize and change tasks frequently and quickly
- BLS for Healthcare Providers certification
- ACLS certification
- Department specific competencies
