Job Summary
Conduct comprehensive direct patient care for critically ill children aged 0-18, including obtaining histories, performing physical examinations, ordering diagnostic tests, diagnosing illnesses, and prescribing pharmacological treatments. Provide health maintenance interventions through patient and family education and counseling while assuming accountability for indirect responsibilities such as staff education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement. Maintain current ACLS certification within six months and BLS certification upon orientation.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Masters of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university
- Successful completion of a National Certification Exam for NP
- Current registration through the Alabama board of Nursing
- Current registration through the Board of Medical Examiners
- approval of the Huntsville Hospital credentialing board
- Must have excellent communication skills
- ability to work independently in a fast paced environment
- requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly
- BLS for Healthcare Providers must be obtained in orientation period
- ACLS must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment and maintained current
Desired Qualifications
- Pediatric Acute Care Preferred
- PICU experience preferred
- PALS is highly recommended
- Department specific competencies must be completed within the provisional period and maintained current
