Nurse Practitioner - Pain Service Surgery Program

Job Summary

Collaborate with anesthesia teams to create patient-centered pain management care plans for surgical patients across two hospital sites. Execute multi-modal treatment strategies for perioperative and inpatient patients while providing discharge education and bridging care to community resources. Lead quality improvement initiatives, participate in policy development, and deliver professional education programs to advance the profession. Support complex pain management issues for diverse populations with a focus on seamless transition of care and clinical excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of Masters Degree Program in Nursing
  • Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario as an Extended Class RN and is a member in good standing
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent clinical experience in Surgery and/or acute pain management
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life support

Desired Qualifications

  • Membership in the Nurse Practitioner Association of Ontario
  • National certification in Perioperative Nursing from the Canadian Nurses Association
  • Advanced clinical knowledge of current best practices in management of acute pain for Surgery patients inclusive of multi-modal treatment plans
  • Expert understanding of anaesthesia-based care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of chronic pain
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of theories guiding adult learning principles and principles guiding health promotion activities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of planning, developing and implementing education initiatives for health care providers and community members
  • Experience in Case Management
  • Embraces a philosophy of patient and family centered care using effective communication and counselling skills
  • Demonstrates leadership in clinical excellence
  • Excellent Assessment and provision of services to clients, families and communities
  • Advanced nursing assessment skills and sound knowledge of clinical therapeutics related to surgery and pain management
  • Excellent organizational, critical appraisal and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • High level of initiative and self-direction
  • Exemplary interpersonal and communications skills
  • Computer literacy in a Windows environment utilizing Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook at a senior level
  • Proven attendance record
  • Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the job
