Job Summary

Conduct comprehensive patient care in outpatient and operating room settings, including history taking, physical exams, and therapeutic procedures such as wound management, fracture reduction, and joint injections. Evaluate and treat patients based on diagnostic test results, prescribe medical devices, and initiate referrals or consults with supervising physicians. Document and bill for direct care while utilizing evidence-based decision-making to participate in quality improvement and clinical research activities. Support accreditation, compliance, and regulatory functions, and potentially precept advanced practice students. Travel to MUSC ambulatory clinics to assist assigned physicians.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant
  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN
  • APRN must have Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) Certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day
  • AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP)
  • FNP (Family NP)
  • APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law
  • Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required
  • Maintain 20/40 vision corrected
  • Ability to work in a latex safe environment
  • Work indoors
  • Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs. (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs. of force, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs.
  • Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions
  • Ability to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting

Desired Qualifications

  • Two years as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in Orthopedic Surgery or another surgical subspecialty preferred
