Job Summary
Assess physical and emotional patient needs, provide medical treatment and advice, and perform examinations while interpreting diagnostic test findings for differential diagnoses. Prescribe medications per protocol, direct preventive health programs such as immunizations, and maintain complete, problem-oriented medical records. Collaborate with physicians and other health professionals to deliver patient-centered care, consult on complex cases, and participate in quality assurance and program planning. Deliver health maintenance education to patients and community groups while adhering to CVHS bylaws and professional standards. Requires certification as an Adult, Family, or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Virginia RN licensure, and ability to work without on-site physician supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Certification by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association, American Nurses Credentialing Center, or another respected and appropriate authority as an Adult, Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, as required for state licensure.
- Previous experience as an RN in public health or community health nursing, or home health nursing.
- Able to function well with physicians, nurses, and other health care providers.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Concern for patient confidentiality.
- Able to deal effectively with hostile or otherwise uncooperative patients.
- Sensitive to the administrative needs of supervising physicians and other CVHS personnel.
- Able to maintain good, professional demeanor even in very difficult circumstances.
- Ability to work some after-hours or on-call coverage.
- Ability to work without on-site physician supervision.
- Commitment to rural living.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Licensed as a RN in the State of Virginia.
- Graduate of an approved program of instruction for Adult, Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioners.
- Certification as an Adult, Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner as required by the State of Virginia.
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred two years' experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
