Job Summary
Nurse Practitioner specializing in correctional health on a per diem basis at Cumberland County Jail in Portland, ME, delivering comprehensive ambulatory care to inmate patients. Collaborates with healthcare professionals and correctional staff to manage a range of conditions from minor illnesses to complex/chronic diseases, ensuring care alignment with regulatory and facility standards. Responsibilities include conducting medical evaluations, developing individualized treatment plans, prescribing medications within state regulations, monitoring medications and adherence, documenting histories and assessments, and participating in quality improvement activities. Requires NP certification and RN licensure with active DEA/CDS licenses, strong clinical judgment, ability to work independently and within a team, effective communication with inmates and staff, proficiency with electronic documentation, and ability to meet shift demands including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties. Maintains facility security clearance and adheres to HIPAA, PREA, OSHA, and infection control policies.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current, unrestricted RN license in the state of practice
- Certified Nurse Practitioner in the state of practice
- Current DEA, CDS, and DEA-X licenses
- Minimum 2 years of direct patient care as a Nurse Practitioner preferred
