Job Summary
Provide daily physician support in outpatient and inpatient settings by conducting clinic visits, taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, and ordering/interpreting lab tests and x-rays. Deliver educational support to nursing staff regarding cardiac and thoracic surgical services while participating in performance improvement initiatives. Round at two local hospitals to ensure continuity of care and monitor patient progress, including providing wound care, preoperative, and postoperative care. Respond to calls from home health agencies, hospital staff, and patients as needed, and complete necessary case-specific paperwork. Operate under the supervision of the Cardiothoracic Surgeon with call and standby coverage as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
- BLS certification
- Must hold a valid Nurse Practitioner license in the state of Florida
- Must be adaptable to fast-paced, dynamic healthcare environments
- Adequate hearing to perform job duties in person and over the telephone
- Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone
- Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient and reading information from printed sources and computer screens
- Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted
- Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service, including injections
- Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting
- Some heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift
- Requires exposure to communicable diseases and/or bodily fluids
Desired Qualifications
- Preferably, at least three years of experience in Cardiothoracic care
