Job Summary
Assess physical and emotional patient needs, plan health care services, and provide medical treatment and advice. Perform patient examinations, interpret diagnostic test findings for differential diagnoses, and prescribe medications per protocol. Direct preventive health programs including immunizations and disease detection while maintaining high standards of professional behavior. Adhere to CVHS contract provisions, participate in quality assurance programs, and keep complete, problem-oriented medical records. Provide thorough health maintenance education to patients and collaborate with physicians and patient educators. Consult promptly with collaborating physicians for complex cases beyond scope of practice. Perform administrative, supervisory, and teaching duties as directed by the Chief Medical Officer. Maintain continuing professional education to ensure competence. Work without on-site physician supervision, including after-hours or on-call coverage, while demonstrating competence in performing essential job functions.
Required Qualifications
- Certification by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association, American Nurses Credentialing Center, or another respected and appropriate authority as an Adult, Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, as required for state licensure.
- Previous experience as an RN in public health or community health nursing, or home health nursing.
- Able to function well with physicians, nurses, and other health care providers.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Concern for patient confidentiality.
- Able to deal effectively with hostile or otherwise uncooperative patients.
- Able to maintain good, professional demeanor even in very difficult circumstances.
- Ability to work some after-hours or on-call coverage.
- Ability to work without on-site physician supervision.
- Commitment to rural living.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Licensed as a RN in the State of Virginia.
- Graduate of an approved program of instruction for Adult, Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioners.
- Certification as an Adult, Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner as required by the State of Virginia.
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred two years' experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
