Job Summary
Assess patient physical and emotional needs, perform examinations, interpret diagnostic tests, and diagnose ailments while providing medical treatment and advice. Prescribe medications per protocol, direct preventive health programs, and maintain problem-oriented medical records. Collaborate with physicians and community groups to deliver patient-centered care, participate in quality assurance initiatives, and perform administrative or teaching duties as assigned. Work Monday through Friday with an on-call rotation in a high-volume practice setting.
Required Qualifications
- Certification by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association, American Nurses Credentialing Center, or another respected and appropriate authority as an Adult, Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, as required for state licensure.
- Previous experience as an RN in public health or community health nursing, or home health nursing.
- Able to function well with physicians, nurses, and other health care providers.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Concern for patient confidentiality.
- Able to deal effectively with hostile or otherwise uncooperative patients.
- Sensitive to the administrative needs of supervising physicians and other CVHS personnel.
- Able to maintain good, professional demeanor even in very difficult circumstances.
- Ability to work some after-hours or on-call coverage.
- Ability to work without on-site physician supervision.
- Commitment to rural living.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Licensed as a RN in the State of Virginia.
- Graduate of an approved program of instruction for Adult, Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioners.
- Certification as an Adult, Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner as required by the State of Virginia.
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred two years' experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
