Job Summary
Nurse (LPN) part-time daytime role in Portland, ME, providing comprehensive nursing services for patients within an addiction treatment setting. Responsibilities include linkage of patients to physicians and external resources, participation in Interdisciplinary Team Meetings, emergency medical response, supervision of nursing care and coordination with attending physicians, and input into the Master Treatment Plan. Tasks also cover timely documentation (within 24 hours of admission), administering medications, coordinating with Medical Director and Psychiatrist, referrals, patient assessments and monitoring, medication management training for staff, and ongoing patient health education and health privacy compliance. Requires an active Practical Nurse degree, state licensure, CPR, 1 year of relevant experience, and ability to handle detox-related procedures and emergencies.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed to practice nursing in the appropriate state
- Maintains current licensure per state requirements
- CPR certification
- Graduated from a Community College with Practical Nurse Degree
- Minimum 1 year experience in chemical dependency/psychiatric setting (detox unit/inpatient/outpatient)
- sobriety requirement: two years sobriety prior to hire if recovering from substance use disorder and participate in a self-help program
- Knowledge of addictions and mental health complications
- Ability to determine if a medical emergency exists and take appropriate action
- Knowledge of emergency procedures for alcohol/drug overdose
- Knowledge of withdrawal stages and appropriate actions
- Understanding of confidentiality and patient rights
- Knowledge of federal, state, and municipal laws/regulations relevant to treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction
- Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes
- Maintenance of required training including CPR, First Aid, Infection Control, Fire Safety
