Job Summary
Manage day-to-day nursing operations and staff for the assigned unit under direction of the Director of Nursing. Supervise staff, tasks, and workflow while evaluating census, acuity, skill level, and availability to meet staffing needs. Assist with hiring, training, development, counseling, performance assessments, and retention. Provide education, direction, and mentorship to the nursing team. Ensure accreditation standards from TJC and CMS are met and track Infection Prevention Program trends. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure positive patient outcomes and assist with developing patient care policies. Maintain active presence on the unit for rounds and direct patient care during high flow times. Address staff, patient, and family concerns immediately and report issues to the Director of Nursing.
Required Qualifications
- Two years relevant experience
- Current state Registered Nurse license
- CRRN certification
- Current BLS certification
- ACLS certification
- Knowledge of and adherence to current nursing theory and practice
- Knowledge of and adherence to infection prevention standards
- Knowledge of and adherence to wound care standards of practice
- Knowledge of accreditation standards set forth by state and accrediting agencies of TJC and CMS
- General computer skills including data entry, word processing, email, and records management
- Critical thinking skills
- Effective organizational and time management skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and complete complex tasks
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection prevention standards
- Visual acuity required for patient assessment and documentation of care
- Acute hearing required for accurate patient assessment
- Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard
- Close vision and the ability to adjust focus
- Lifting/exerting of up to 50 lbs
- Possible exposure to bodily fluids
Desired Qualifications
- Three years' experience in a hospital nurse management position
