Job Summary
The Nurse Manager leads 24-hour planning and coordination of clinical and administrative performance for the NICU, including staffing, budgeting, and adherence to nursing standards. Responsibilities include daily rounds, ensuring safe, cost-effective patient care; overseeing nursing practice and patient/family plans of care; coordinating cross-disciplinary rounds with providers and staff; maintaining regulatory compliance (JC, DPH) and quality/safety initiatives; managing human resources, orientation, performance reviews, and staff development; leading unit-level governance, huddles, and engagement in nursing leadership activities; and ensuring efficient unit operations, equipment, and supplies. The role requires MSN (or BSN with enrolled MSN) and Massachusetts RN licensure, with prior leadership/management experience, strong interpersonal and analytical skills, and ability to manage budgets, staffing, and performance metrics. The position is in the NICU at UMass Memorial Medical Center – Children’s Medical Center, Worcester, MA, with day shift responsibilities and a potential signing bonus.
Required Qualifications
- MSN or BSN with MSN in progress
- Massachusetts Registered Nurse License
- Leadership/management experience
- Interpersonal and communication skills for participative leadership
- Strong analytical skills for data analysis and budget information
- Ability to oversee staffing, budgeting, hiring, and performance reviews
- Familiarity with Joint Commission and CMS standards
- Active involvement in professional organizations and certification in nursing
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing with MSN in progress is acceptable per policy
- Supervisory/management responsibilities in a healthcare setting
