Job Summary
Respond to patient call lights promptly and relay needs to nursing personnel. Observe patients for condition changes and report findings to the nurse. Assist with activities of daily living including nourishment, ambulation, personal hygiene, and toileting. Perform direct care tasks such as vital signs, bathing, skin care, and specimen collection. Maintain clean, safe, and organized patient and service rooms. Monitor intake and output, estimate food/fluid consumption, and record data on flow sheets. Demonstrate proper turning, positioning, and transferring techniques while complying with falls prevention protocols. Complete patient rounds regularly to monitor safety and adapt care to individual needs.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- BLS certification (AHA only)
- first aid training
- Ability to read and write at an elementary school level
- Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations at an elementary school level
- Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients and their families that demonstrate recognition of cultural diversity
- Basic analytical skills in order to gather data, complete comparisons, interpret, & report outcomes to the nurse or document on the medical record
- Ability to manage and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
- Must possess excellent customer service skills
