Job Summary

This position involves expert-level advisory work related to nuclear weapons science for the Department of Energy's Office of Classification, including leading working groups and developing policy documents according to regulations. The role requires a thorough understanding of nuclear weapon design, materials science research, and classification guidance. Candidates should have at least a Master's degree and extensive field experience in nuclear weapons, along with strong communication skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Current DoD Top Secret security clearance or DOE Q security clearance
  • Advanced degree in nuclear engineering or a physical science
  • Hands-on nuclear weapon science experience
  • Minimum of ten (10) years' total field experience in the subject area of nuclear weapons
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read and understand written English at or above academic grade 15

Desired Qualifications

  • Hands-on knowledge of computer code development to support the nuclear weapon complex
  • Experience with XML computer language
  • Expertise in Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF)
  • Experience teaching and developing testing and educational materials for subjects such as IND or ICF
