Job Summary
Nuclear Spent Fuel Engineer responsible for supporting safe, reliable, and compliant management of spent nuclear fuel across multiple Vistra locations. Independently identify and perform tasks related to spent fuel pool management, dry cask storage, fuel movement planning, licensing compliance, and resolution of complex engineering issues. Coordinate projects and communicate with Operations, Engineering, Radiation Protection, Licensing, Security, QA, Maintenance, Nuclear Oversight, vendors, regulators, and external industry groups. Lead interpretation and analysis of spent fuel engineering issues (criticality safety, shielding, thermal performance, decay heat, fuel qualification, dry cask storage, fuel handling). Prepare reports, engineering evaluations, technical recommendations, and regulatory documentation; participate in or lead special projects, readiness reviews, outage support, vendor meetings, regulatory inspections, and external organizations. Maintain awareness of NRC requirements, COFC conditions, technical specifications, and licensing basis; apply systematic problem-solving to spent fuel storage systems, cask equipment, neutron absorbers, and licensing compliance. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information effectively and influence across organizational boundaries, with a strong emphasis on nuclear safety, technical quality, and conservative engineering judgment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering — Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial, or related engineering discipline — from an accredited program
- Minimum 6 yrs. relevant job experience
- Knowledge of commercial nuclear plant operations, regulatory requirements, licensing basis documents, technical specifications, engineering procedures, and corrective action processes
- Experience preparing or reviewing engineering calculations, technical evaluations, procedures, design documents, regulatory inputs, or vendor technical documents
- Ability to support field activities, refueling outages, dry cask loading campaigns, readiness reviews, inspections, and emergent station issues as needed
