Job Summary

Process nuclear orders by preparing/approving drawings, models, design reports, and owner specification reviews for ASME Section III Class 2 & 3 components. Conduct engineering analysis, including stress and deformation calculations and static seismic analysis, using ANSYS FEA to verify structural integrity for valves up to 100". Produce 3D models and detailed design drawings in Solidworks, Autodesk Mechanical Desktop, and PTC CREO for Pratt Nuclear rated Water Valves. Review and approve detailed design packages, engineering forms, and owner design specifications while maintaining competency in ASME/NRC/NUPIC audits. Perform technical disposition of non-conformances for 10CFR21 reporting and update engineering procedures. Join the Nuclear Program at Mueller Water Products' Kimball, TN facility to design valves for nuclear power plants, with a Bachelor's in mechanical engineering and 2–5 years of related experience required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or similar technical degree
  • 2 - 5 years of related experience
  • Knowledge and experience in AutoCAD, Solid Works, FEA (ANSYS), and Microsoft Office (Excel & Word)
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding and incorporating knowledge of manufacturing methods including fabrication, machining, foundry, metal forming, etc. into the design of product lines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities
  • Desire to obtain PE as a career goal
  • Ability to remain in stationary position or standing position for prolonged periods and alternate between
  • Ability to repeat gross or fine manipulation that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, steel-toed or metatarsal-guarded shoes, and/or ear plugs, while working in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to constantly communicate with others to exchange information in person, via phone, or via use of computer
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 25 pounds in weight in all directions
  • Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level
  • Ability to occasionally stoop, crouch, or kneel
  • Must have experience in design of valves compliant with ASME B16.34
  • Experience in development of Design Reports or Technical Construction Files for valves
  • Direct experience in nuclear products, valves, controls, or similar applicable industrial products
  • Understanding of ASME Section III, Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code
  • 4-year ABET degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • EIT Certification
  • Knowledge & experience with audits
  • Familiar with AWWA, MSS, ASME, and ASTM standards

Desired Qualifications

  • Must have experience in design of valves compliant with ASME B16.34
  • Experience in development of Design Reports or Technical Construction Files for valves
  • Direct experience in nuclear products, valves, controls, or similar applicable industrial products
  • Understanding of ASME Section III, Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code is a plus
  • 4-year ABET degree in Mechanical Engineering, EIT Certification a plus
  • Knowledge & experience with audits a plus
  • Familiar with AWWA, MSS, ASME, and ASTM standards
