Job Summary
Firewatch position responsible for fire prevention and protection at a shipyard work site in San Diego, CA. Requires shipyard experience and a Fire Watch training card. Duties include maintaining a designated hot work area free of combustibles, carrying out Fire Watch procedures to protect personnel and company property, warning others of danger, and complying with OSHA and shipyard safety practices. Physical demands include lifting, climbing, and working in confined or elevated spaces, with potential exposure to loud environments and must wear PPE as prescribed.
Required Qualifications
- Shipyard experience
- Fire Watch training card
- Able to wear PPE (hard hat, steel toe shoes, goggles, respirator, etc.)
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures and OSHA standards
- Ability to communicate verbally to warn others of danger
- Knowledge of fixed and portable fire protection systems and their activation
- Capable of touring vessels, piers, docks and work sites
- Willingness to work overtime as assigned
- Able to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting and climbing
- Must be able to pass any required site-specific safety requirements
