Job Summary
1st Class Structural Welder position in a San Diego shipyard performing production welding on ships and in the shop to support structural repairs and modernization of marine vessels. Must understand SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW, and be able to certify in all positions. Read and interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standards manuals. Maintain PPE per OSHA standards and coordinate with Fire Watch, ensuring hot-work is prepared and area is safe. Responsibilities include preparing work areas for production welding, inspecting welds for defects, documenting conditions, and adhering to safety practices. May work overtime; per diem and lodging assistance are available; long-term project. Experience requirements include up to four years in welding-related field.
Required Qualifications
- 1st Class Structural Welder - Fluxcore experience
- Ability to read drawings and ship repair terminology
- Know SMAW, FCAW, GMAW and certification in all positions
- OSHA PPE compliance
- Ability to interpret Navy/MSC/ABS standards
- Ability to operate welding equipment and tools
- Mathematical ability for measurement systems
