Job Summary
This role conducts production welding on ships or in a shop to support structural repairs and modernization of marine vessels, including US Naval Vessels and Military Sealift Command vessels. The welder will work with SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW processes, read and interpret drawings and specifications, and adhere to OSHA standards and PPE requirements. Responsibilities include coordinating with the welding helper and fire watch, maintaining a safe work environment, inspecting welds, documenting conditions, and complying with shipyard safety and non-discrimination policies. The position requires readiness for shifts/overtime, familiarity with naval/marine welding practices, and the ability to operate welding equipment and portable tools in a demanding shipyard environment.
Required Qualifications
- Shipyard experience is required
- Must be able to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standards
- Must be able to certify in SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW welding processes
- Must be physically capable to wear PPE per OSHA standards
- Must have up to four years of welding experience in a related field
- Able to communicate with supervisor and work with welding helper and fire watch
