Job Summary
Assembles and fits to drawing dimensions of all kinds of structural, plate and mechanical materials into all types of assemblies. Reads blueprints and welding symbols to derive measurements and quantities. Fabricates, assembles, and installs structural steel products such as beams, braces, pipes, and jackets; lays out and fits pipe, beams, decks and jackets; frames skids, bends, and elevations; cuts plate, pipe, and beams with a cutting torch. Uses Come-a-longs, chain falls, and other industry tools; estimates sizes, distances, and quantities and determines time, costs, and resources. Inspects subordinate's work for contract compliance, points out deficiencies, and takes corrective action as needed. Requires knowledge of structural fabrication and field-readiness, safety compliance, and the ability to work outdoors and at height; overtime and weekend work may be required.
Required Qualifications
- May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience
- read blueprints, section and plan drawings, and weld symbols to derive measurements, dimensions, and material quantities
- proficient in safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools, layout tools, and measurement tools
- ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision
- physical capability to meet requirements, climb heights up to 200 ft, work outdoors in all weather conditions, overtime/night/weekends as required
- ability to use Come-a-longs, chain falls, stop plates, dogs, and pad eyes
