Job Summary
Specialty Welders (Alum, CuNi, Stainless; TIG) Journeyperson needed for shipyard project in San Diego/National City, CA. This role welds pipe of various metals on ships or in shop to support mechanical repairs and modernization of marine vessels (including US Naval/MSC/ABS standards). Requires four years of pipe welding experience, ability to certify in P-3 joint with backing ring and P-14 socket weld, and proficiency in SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW. Responsibilities include directing assigned helpers, inspecting welds, documenting condition reports, ensuring gas-free certifications, preparing for hot work, and complying with OSHA and shipyard safety practices. Must interpret drawings and specifications, operate welding equipment, and work shifts with potential overtime in a demanding marine environment. PPE usage, physical stamina, and the ability to travel to work sites are required.
Required Qualifications
- Four (4) years of pipe welding experience
- Must pass Alum, CuNi, Stainless or TIG weld test
- Must be able to interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standard items and manuals
- Must be physically capable to wear PPE per OSHA standards
- Shipyard experience required
- Provide direction to pipe welding helper (if assigned)
- Ability to read instructions and general correspondence
- Working knowledge of ship repair terminology and ship compartment naming convention
