Job Summary
Journeyman Welders (Specialty: Alum, CuNi, Stainless; TIG) needed for shipyard/marine vessel repairs and modernization. Roles involve welding pipe of various metals on ships or in shop environments, providing direction to assigned helpers, and performing inspections, documentation, and compliance tasks. Requirements include exam/qualification tests for Alum, CuNi, Stainless or TIG welds, ability to interpret drawings and ship repair terminology, and 4 years of pipe welding experience. Work entails shipyard safety, hot work readiness, PPE, and adherence to OSHA standards; environment includes potential exposure to loud, outdoor/shipyard conditions with PPE mandatory. Shift may include overtime; location options include San Diego, National City, CA and Norfolk, VA facilities.
Required Qualifications
- Must pass the Alum, CuNi, Stainless or TIG weld test
- Must have four (4) years of pipe welding experience
- Must be able to interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standard items and manuals
- Must be physically and medically capable to wear PPE as prescribed under OSHA standards
- Must be able to operate and care for welding equipment, portable power tools, and hand tools
- Must be able to communicate effectively and provide condition reports with recommendations
