Job Summary
Journeyperson Welders with shipyard experience needed to weld pipe of various metals on ships or in a shop, supporting mechanical repairs and modernization of marine vessels (US Naval, MSC, and commercial ships). Responsibilities include performing welding (alum, CuNi, stainless; TIG), following SMAW/FCAW/GMAW processes, inspecting joints, preparing areas for hot work, and providing direction to a welding helper. Requires ability to read instructions and drawings, certify in P-3/P-14 joints, and pass welding tests; must comply with OSHA standards and shipyard safety practices; ability to document conditions via condition reports and ensure quality with OQE as required. Four years of pipe welding experience and shipyard terminology knowledge are required. Shift dynamics include 40 hours/week with OT on approval; environment ranges from outdoor shipyard to vessel interiors with PPE mandatory. Equal opportunity employer.
Required Qualifications
- Must pass the Alum, CuNi, Stainless or TIG weld test
- Four (4) years of pipe welding experience
- Working knowledge of SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW theory
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standard items and manuals
- Able to operate and care for welding equipment, PPE, and hand tools
- Able to comply with OSHA standards and shipyard safety practices
- Physically capable of welding in shipyard environment and wearing PPE
- Experience providing direction to assigned helpers
- Knowledge of gas free certifications and hot work preparation
