Job Summary
Shipfitter – 1st Class in a Florida shipyard: perform steel structural work in all stages of marine vessel construction with minimal supervision. Must read and interpret blueprints, ship terminology, and weld symbols; fabricate templates, square plates, and scribe structures; install perpendiculars per drawings. Proficient with oxy-acetylene and plasma cutting, and capable with hand and power tools. Adhere to OSHA standards and PPE requirements. Three years of related experience required. Housing assistance and per-diem available; overtime hours (M-Th 10 hours, Fri 8 hours, some Sat/Sun). Bilingual Spanish speakers encouraged. Location: Savannah, GA. Call Clara for details.
Required Qualifications
- Three (3) years of related experience
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings (including weld symbols)
- Experience fabricating templates, squaring plates, scribing in structures, and installing perpendiculars on ships in accordance with drawings
- Experience using oxy-acetylene torch and Plasma for cutting and washing
- Experience using hand and power tools safely including mauls, grinders, circular and reciprocating saws, and hand and magnetic drill
- Understand the proper use and operation of structural shop fabrication equipment, including shears, punches, come alongs and brakes
- Comprehensive understanding of ship new construction terminology and ship compartment location nomenclature
- Be physically and medically capable of wearing all required PPE as prescribed under OSHA standards
