Job Summary
Shipfitter – 1st Class needed at a Florida shipyard to perform steel structural work in all stages of new marine vessel construction. Requires ability to read blueprints, interpret job drawings, understand ship terminology, measurements, and follow specifications with minimal supervision. Must have working knowledge of ship construction terminology, ability to read plans and blueprints, and experience fabricating components including fittings, squaring plates, and installing perpendiculars. PPE and OSHA standards must be followed; physical ability to use a variety of shop tools and equipment ( oxy-acetylene torch, plasma cutting, grinders, saws, punches, brakes, etc.). Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to communicate effectively with the structural supervisor and small groups are required. Three years of related experience and the ability to work in a long-term project with housing assistance and per-diem available; overtime hours and potential weekend work are noted. Required Qualifications
- Experience in ship construction or marine vessel fabrication
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints
- Three (3) years of related experience
- Knowledge of ship terminology and nomenclature
- Ability to use measuring tools and understand both US customary and metric units
- Ability to wear all PPE as required by OSHA standards
- Ability to read weld symbols and interpret drawings
- Experience with oxy-acetylene and plasma cutting
- Experience with hand and power tools
- Ability to follow directions and communicate effectively with supervisors
