Job Summary
Shipfitter is responsible for surface preparation of structural metal components and the layout and fabrication of metal structural parts within the hull of a vessel for riveting and welding. They must read and interpret blueprints/drawings, lay out parts from templates, locate reference lines, position parts in the hull with assistance, align parts using jacks and related tools, mark hole locations, install temporary fasteners for welding/riveting, tack weld clips/brackets when needed, and bend, flange, cut, and shape plates and beams. Prior shipfitter experience is preferred; ability to operate a cutting torch and tack weld is highly desirable. Labor One Staffing is an equal opportunity employer.
Required Qualifications
- Shipfitter experience preferred
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings
- Experience with surface preparation of metal components
- Ability to lay out parts from blueprints or templates
- Ability to align parts using tools such as jacks, come-a-longs, turnbuckles, clips, wedges, and mauls
- Ability to mark hole locations and prepare parts for welding or riveting
- Ability to tack weld brackets and clips prior to permanent welding
- Ability to bend, flange, cut, and shape plates and beams
