Job Summary
Now Hiring: Shipfitter Journeyperson for ship repair and modernization projects. Perform steel and aluminum structural work on marine vessels including US Naval Vessels, Military Sealift Command, and commercial ships with minimal supervision. Requires shipyard experience, ability to read and interpret drawings/blueprints, and fabrication of structures. Welding experience across SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW, plus oxy-acetylene cutting. Must understand NAVSEA/ABS/Coast Guard standards, OSHA PPE requirements, and be able to interpret job specifications and drawings. Four years of related experience, proficiency with shop tools, and the ability to work from drawings to install foundations and structures, with attention to safety and quality. Shift includes 40 hours per week with OT on approval; physical requirements include lifting, standing, climbing, and working in shipyard environments.
Required Qualifications
- Four years of related experience
- Shipyard experience
- Ability to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings (including weld symbols)
- Experience using oxy-acetylene torch for cutting and finishing
- Welding experience SMAW, FCAW, GMAW
- Ability to write Condition Found Reports (CFR) describing material condition and recommendations
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and teams
- Ability to interpret NAVSEA, ABS, Coast Guard standards and manufacturer manuals
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and operate shop fabrication equipment
- Understanding of aluminum 5XXX process
- Ability to measure using US customary system and metric system
- Physically able to perform required duties including lifting up to 100 lbs
- Four years of related experience
