Job Summary
Perform structural steel and aluminum ship repair and modernization on marine vessels, including US Naval Vessels and commercial ships. Read and interpret drawings and NAVSEA/Standards, fabricate templates and foundations, weld using SMAW/FCAW/GMAW, oxy-acetylene cutting, and follow OSHA PPE requirements. Work 3rd shift in a National City/San Diego shipyard setting with emphasis on safety, quality, and ability to operate in varied shipyard environments. Must have shipyard experience and the ability to read blueprints, understand weld symbols, and coordinate with supervisors.
Required Qualifications
- Four (4) years of related experience.
- Shipyard experience required.
- Experience fabricating templates, squaring plates, scribing in structures, and installing perpendiculars on ships in accordance with drawings, specifications, or sketches.
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings (including weld symbols).
- Experience welding SMAW (S-11A) fillet, FCAW (S-1) fillet, GMAW (S-25) fillet.
- Ability to use oxy-acetylene torch for cutting and washing.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely (mauls, grinders, saws, drills).
- Understanding of aluminum 5XXX process.
- Ability to interpret NAVSEA, ABS, Coast Guard standards and manufacturer manuals.
- Ability to measure using US customary and metric systems.
- Physical ability to meet job demands (lifting, climbing, standing, etc.).
- 4 years of related experience.
