Job Summary
A pipefitter journeyman is responsible for removing, repairing, targeting, laying out, fabricating, installing, and testing marine piping systems (e.g., Auxiliary Salt Water, Fire Main, Potable Water, Hydraulic, Compressed Air, Fuel Oil, Lube Oil, Engine Exhaust) in a shipyard environment, following NAVSEA/Military standards and ABS/MSC guidelines. Duties include using shop equipment for brazing and fitting, determining conditions for hot work, providing direction to improvers and helpers, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality requirements. Work requires interpreting drawings, performing tests, and adhering to PPE and OSHA safety practices; physical demands include lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces; 2nd shift with 40 hours per week; Channelview, TX and San Diego, CA locations.},
Required Qualifications
- Six (6) years of pipefitting experience, four (3) of which in the maritime repair environment
- Ability to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence
- Knowledge of ship repair terminology and ship compartment naming conventions
- Ability to wear and use PPE per OSHA standards
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standards
- Ability to operate and care for pipe fabrication equipment and tools
- Ability to perform basic math and understand US customary and metric measurements
- Ability to provide direction to improvers and helpers as directed by supervisor
- Certification capability in MT Braze (B-1) and MT Braze (B-2)
