Job Summary

Pipefitter journeyman for a marine shipyard project. Responsibilities include removing, repairing, laying out, fabricating, installing, and testing marine piping systems such as Auxiliary Salt Water, Fire Main, Potable Water, Hydraulic, Compressed Air, Fuel Oil, and Lube Oil, in accordance with NAVSEA/Military/ABS standards. Use of shop equipment (pipe threading machines, bending machines, drill presses, brazing equipment) and performing pressure testing and tank blanking. Provide direction to improvers and helpers as directed. Requires strong interpretation of drawings, ship repair terminology, and the ability to certify in brazing standards. Must be able to operate power tools, read measurements, and comply with OSHA safety practices. Six years of pipefitting experience with maritime repair background is required. Work environment includes shipyard conditions with PPE usage, hot work readiness, and potential for OT shift work. Second shift available; 40 hours per week with OT possible. Required Qualifications

  • Six (6) years of pipefitting experience, four (3) of which in the maritime repair environment
  • Ability to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ship repair terminology and ship compartment naming conventions
  • Ability to wear OSHA-required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, respirator, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standards
  • Comprehensive knowledge of marine pipe fabrication, repair, and targeting equipment and processes
  • Ability to operate and care for portable power tools and hand tools
  • Ability to write condition reports and communicate issues
  • Certification ability in MT Braze (B-1) and MT Braze (B-2)
  • Proficiency with measurement systems (US customary and metric)
  • Strong attention to safety and OSHA compliance
  • Ability to work shifts, overtime, and meet schedules
  • Ability to inspect, fabricate, install, and test piping systems
  • Experience with joint fit-up and brazing theory
  • Physical capability to perform job duties including lifting and working in confined spaces
