Job Summary

Pipefitter journeyman for marine piping systems (Auxiliary Salt Water, Fire Main, Potable Water, Hydraulic, etc.) per NAVSEA/Military standards. Responsibilities include removing, repairing, laying out, fabricating, installing, and testing piping; providing direction to improvers/helpers; ensuring compliance with safety and quality requirements; and performing tasks such as blanking, pressure testing, and adherence to drawings and item specifications. Must interpret drawings, certify brazing processes, and meet shipyard PPE and OSHA requirements. Shift is 2nd shift, 40 hours/week with potential overtime; work is in a shipyard environment requiring physical endurance and travel between vessel spaces. National City, CA and San Diego, CA locations are included for on-site work; localities are in the United States.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence.
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of ship repair terminology and ship compartment naming convention.
  • Must be physically and medically capable to wear all required PPE per OSHA standards (PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.).
  • Must be able to effectively convey job-related information in writing including conditions found reports with recommended corrective action.
  • Must have thorough knowledge/experience with P-73 joint fit-up.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of Silver Brazing theory.
  • Must be able to certify in MT Braze (B-1) and MT Braze (B-2).
  • Must be able to interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standard items and manuals.
  • Must possess knowledge of equipment/work processes used in marine pipe fabrication, repair, and targeting.
  • Must be able to operate and care for equipment, portable power tools, and hand tools.
  • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and understand US customary/metric measurement systems.
  • Must have six (6) years of pipefitting experience, four (3) of which in the maritime repair environment.
