Job Summary

A pipefitter journeyman is responsible for removing, repairing, laying out, fabricating, installing, and testing marine piping systems (e.g., Auxiliary Salt Water, Fire Main, Potable Water, Hydraulic, Compressed Air, Fuel Oil, Lube Oil, Engine Exhaust) in accordance with NAVSEA/Military standards, ABS, and other regulatory body standards. Tasks include use of shop equipment (table saws, pipe threading machines, bending machines, drill presses, brazing equipment), performing blanking and pressure testing of tanks, and providing direction to improvers and helpers as directed by the supervisor. Must read and interpret drawings, certify in brazing processes, ensure gas-free certifications, and comply with OSHA safety practices. Work environment includes shipyard conditions, hot work readiness, CFR documentation, Lock-out Tag-out, and maintaining a safe, clean workspace. The role requires physical demands such as climbing, lifting, standing for extended periods, and working in confined spaces, with potential OT and 40-hour shifts (2nd shift). Candidate must meet the extensive piping experience requirements and possess knowledge of ship repair terminology and industry standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Six (6) years of pipefitting experience, four (3) of which in the maritime repair environment
  • Must be able to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence
  • Must have knowledge of ship repair terminology and ship compartment naming conventions
  • Must be physically and medically able to wear PPE per OSHA standards
  • Must be able to read drawings/specifications and interpret Navy/MSC/ABS standards
  • Must be able to certify in MT Braze (B-1) and MT Braze (B-2)
  • Must be able to operate and care for equipment and tools
  • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic in US customary and metric systems
  • Experience with pipe fabrication, repair, and targeting in marine environments
  • Ability to document conditions and communicate with supervisor
  • Ability to work shifts and overtime as required
