Job Summary
Pipefitter journeyman is responsible for removing, repairing, targeting, laying out, fabricating, installing, and testing marine piping systems (e.g., Auxiliary Salt Water, Fire Main, Potable Water, Hydraulic, Compressed Air, Fuel Oil, Lube Oil, Engine Exhaust) in accordance with work item specifications and NAVSEA/Military standards. Tasks include reading drawings, bending and threading pipe, brazing, and testing; providing direction to improvers and helpers; and complying with safety and quality requirements. The role requires shipyard work in San Diego, California, with extensive PPE and physical demands, and may involve day or night shifts. Certifications in MT Braze and knowledge of P-73 joint fit-up, along with familiarity with ABS and MSC standards, are valued. Must be able to interpret engineering drawings and work orders, and operate tools and equipment used in marine pipe fabrication and repair.
Required Qualifications
- Six (6) years of pipefitting experience, four (3) of which in the maritime repair environment
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standard items and manuals
- Must be able to wear PPE per OSHA standards
- Ability to certify in MT Braze (B-1) and MT Braze (B-2)
- Knowledge of ship repair terminology and compartment naming conventions
- Excellent written and verbal communication for reporting conditions and corrective actions
