Job Summary
Pipe fitter journeyman responsible for removing, repairing, laying out, fabricating, installing, and testing marine piping systems (Auxiliary Salt Water, Fire Main, Potable Water, Hydraulic, Compressed Air, Fuel Oil, Lube Oil, Engine Exhaust, etc.) in accordance with work item specifications; provides direction to improvers and helpers as directed by the supervisor. Requires comprehensive knowledge of ship construction, ability to interpret drawings and manuals (Navy/MSC/ABS), proficiency with PPE per OSHA, and at least 3 years of shipyard pipefitting experience. Long-term project with housing assistance and per-diem available; overtime with a schedule of M-Th 10 hours, Fri 8 hours, and some Saturdays/Sundays. Bilingual Spanish skills noted. Locations in Newport News, VA and Florida; on-site work with potential travel to project sites.
Required Qualifications
- Must have at least Three (3) years of pipefitting shipyard experience
- comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence
- thorough knowledge of ship construction
- physically and medically capable to wear PPE per OSHA standards
- ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standards
- knowledge of marine pipe fabrication, repair, and targeting processes
- ability to operate and care for portable power tools and hand tools
- must understand basic arithmetic and measurement systems
