Job Summary
Pipe fitter journeyman responsible for removing, repairing, laying out, fabricating, installing, and testing marine piping systems (e.g., Auxiliary Salt Water, Fire Main, Potable Water, Hydraulic, Compressed Air, Fuel Oil, Lube Oil, Engine Exhaust) in accordance with work-item specifications; provide direction to improvers and helpers as directed by the supervisor. Long-term project with housing assistance and per-diem available for those who qualify. Must read and interpret instructions, drawings, and general correspondence; capable with PPE per OSHA; knowledgeable in P-73 joint fit-up and able to work with Navy/MSC/ABS standards; proficient in operating and maintaining hand and power tools; able to perform basic arithmetic and measurements; English/Spanish bilingual preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence
- Must have a comprehensive knowledge of ship construction
- Must be physically and medically capable to wear all required PPE per OSHA standards (hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.)
- Must be able to effectively convey job-related information and report conditions with recommended corrective actions
- Must have thorough knowledge of experience with P-73 joint fit-up
- Must be able to interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standards
- Must possess knowledge of equipment and work processes used in marine pipe fabrication, repair, and targeting
- Must be able to operate and care for portable power tools and hand tools
- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; understand US customary and metric systems
- At least three (3) years of pipefitting shipyard experience
