Job Summary
Pipe fitter journeyman responsible for removing, repairing, laying out, fabricating, installing, and testing marine piping systems (Auxiliary Salt Water, Fire Main, Potable Water, Hydraulic, Compressed Air, Fuel Oil, Lube Oil, Engine Exhaust, etc.) in accordance with work item specifications. Provides direction to improvers and helpers as directed by the supervisor. Requires comprehension of drawings and general correspondence, knowledge of ship construction, PPE per OSHA standards, and experience with pipefitting in a shipyard setting (minimum 3 years). Long-term project with housing assistance and per-diem available; overtime hours (Mon-Thu 10 hours, Fri 8 hours; some weekends). Call for full details.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence.
- Must have a comprehensive knowledge of ship construction.
- Must be physically and medically capable to wear PPE per OSHA standards.
- Must be able to effectively convey job-related information in writing with recommended corrective actions.
- Must have knowledge/experience with P-73 joint fit-up.
- Must be able to interpret drawings, specifications, and Navy/MSC/ABS standard items and manuals.
- Must possess knowledge of equipment and work processes used in marine pipe fabrication, repair, and targeting.
- Must operate and care for power tools and hand tools.
- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; understand US customary and metric measurement systems.
- At least three (3) years of pipefitting shipyard experience.
