Job Summary
Insulator Helper required to install and remove ship insulation on maritime vessels, working under guidance from a supervisor and journeyman. Duties include measuring, cutting, and fabricating insulation for bulkheads, overheads, piping, ducts, machinery, and equipment to minimize heat transfer, moisture condensation, and sound. Requires knowledge of insulation craft, shipyard safety, OSHA standards, NAVSEA/ABS/Coast Guard standards, and basic measurement skills; walk-ins welcomed and experience in ship repair environments preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence.
- Must have a basic understanding of ship repair terminology and ship compartment location nomenclature.
- Must be physically and medically capable of wearing PPE per OSHA standards.
- Must be able to write a report for the supervisor or journeyman describing material condition of the ship as it pertains to the assigned work item.
- Must be able to effectively confer job related information to the improver, journeyman, and supervisor.
- Must have experience using hand and power tools associated with the trade in a safe manner.
- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals using US customary measurement system.
- Two (2) years of related experience, some of which must be in the maritime environment.
