Job Summary
Journeyperson Carpenter needed for a Ship Repair project in San Diego/National City, CA. Responsibilities include constructing, installing, repairing, and fabricating wood structures to protect ship equipment, outfitting the drydock with docking blocks, and outfitting ships in accordance with drawings and specifications. Requires the ability to read blueprints and specifications, interpret manuals and change orders, operate carpentry tools and equipment, and perform precise measurements in US standard and metric units. Must have six years of related shipyard experience and a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) or vocational training; OSHA safety compliance and appropriate PPE are mandatory. Second shift, 40 hours per week with OT per hiring manager approval. Walk-ins accepted and local contact numbers provided for further information.
Required Qualifications
- Shipyard experience is required
- High school degree or equivalent (GED), or vocational school degree
- Six years of related experience
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, job specifications, manuals, change orders, and contract specifications
- Knowledge of marine carpentry, joinery, and drydock blocking operations
- Ability to operate carpenter shop equipment, portable power tools, and hand tools
- Ability to work with US standard and metric measurements and perform basic arithmetic
- Must comply with OSHA standards and wear PPE
- Ability to maintain safety and keep work area clean and safe
